Donna Lawrence
Donna Lawrence is Owner and Creative Director of Donna Lawrence Productions, a Louisville-based production company and has produced and directed numerous highly-acclaimed productions for a wide range of museum, visitor attraction, theatrical and corporate venues throughout the US and abroad. As creative director for DLP, Donna collaborates with a team of nationally-recognized, primarily Kentucky-based artists and media specialists to create signature films, multi-screen installations, 360˚ films, interactive experiences, sound and light shows, immersive theatrical environments, and other uniquely designed experiences.
Donna’s work is consistently recognized for its memorable story telling qualities, innovative use of environmental media, high-impact soundtrack design, and has been recognized in almost every national and international festival dedicated to special format or documentary productions, including The Sundance Film Festival, The New York Festivals, AAM’s Muse Awards and many others.
Past projects include the Kentucky Derby Museum’s 360˚ media feature, Greatest Race; The Motown Sound, a powerful exploration of the music and the story behind it; Freedom Rising, the landmark live/media theatrical production for the National Constitution Center in Philadelphia; Jazz Is…, orientation film for the American Jazz Museum in Kansas City selected for screening at the Sundance Film Festival; and most recently a series of productions for the new Gettysburg Museum and Visitor Center.
Donna has been elected to the Producer’s Hall of Fame by AMI, the Association of Multi-Media International, and has been a guest panelist at the Annual Meeting of the American Association of Museums (AAM), as well as the American Association of State and Local History. She has Bachelor and Masters Degrees in Music from the University of Texas and the New England Conservatory and studied at the UCLA Institute of Ethnomusicology with special emphases on Latin American and African American music traditions.
